In 2019, both Takahashi Juri (16th) and Takeuchi Miyu (17th) signed with Korean agencies after graduating from AKB48. Kim Si Hyeon (27th) and Wang Yi Ren (28th) debuted together as members of EVERGLOW on March 18, 2019. Park Hae Yoon (19th) debuted as a member of Cherry Bullet on January 21, 2019. Later, on August 8, 2019, she debuted in the main group FANATICS. Kim Do Ah (23rd) debuted as a member of the sub-unit FLAVOR on November 26, 2018. Yoon Hae Sol (35th) debuted as a member of the project girl group AQUA on November 17, 2018. She was featured in the Senbatsu for their latest single, "Nemohamo Rumor." Honda Hitomi (9th) returned to AKB48's Team B and Team 8. Yabuki Nako (6th) appeared at the concert, but did not graduate, remaining in HKT48. Miyawaki Sakura (2nd) graduated from HKT48 on June 19, 2021. Choi Ye Na (4th) will debut as a soloist in the first half of 2022. Jang Won Young (1st) and An Yu Jin (5th) will debut in Starship's new girl group IVE on December 1, 2021, with the single album " Eleven". The song earned her a nomination for best new female artist at the 2021 MAMAs. Jo Yu Ri (3rd) debuted as a soloist on Octowith the single album, " Glassy". Kwon Eun Bi (7th) debuted as a soloist on Augwith the mini album, Open. The group promoted for two and a half years, with the option to renew.

The show was originally intended to have 48 Korean trainees and 48 Japanese trainees, however, the final contestant lineup consisted of 57 Korean Trainees and 39 Japanese trainees. Ĭontestants moved into dorms specially for the show on April 11 and spent a week there training and recording their audition performances. Mnet eventually confirmed the upcoming third season at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Japan on November 29, following a collaboration stage performance with AKB48, Chungha, PRISTIN, Weki Meki, fromis_9, and Idol School Class 1. Mnet denied the report stating the contents of the article were groundless. Rumors of a third season began on Novemafter news outlet OSEN published an exclusive report of the show's return, also indicating that they would be collaborating with Japanese girl group AKB48.
